So I’ve been sitting on this for close to two weeks, yes that’s right TWO weeks. Why you ask…. Well because I have NEVER written a movie review before and figured what better summer hit movie then Girls Trip to do so.
I first saw the trailer for Girls Trip back in February when me and my 2 best girls saw Fifty Shades Darker. When we saw this trailer (below) we all gave a collective “Hell yeah,” “We’re so seeing that movie,” and “Put that shit on the calendar.” After seeing this movie I am so glad we did.
Going into the movie I had a feeling that this was going to be one of those movies where the only funny parts were what they showed in the trailers. Can I just say that I am so damn glad I was wrong. I wasn’t sure how this movie was going to play out in the on screen character chemistry department. I mean who wouldn’t wonder this. You have Regina Hall (Ryan), Queen Latifah (Sasha), Jade Pinkett Smith (Lisa) and Tiffany Haddish (Dina), that’s a WHOLE lot of leading lady personalities and Malcolm D. Lee made it work oh so well.
Girls Trip is about four longtime friends who travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, kind of reunion after going apart over the years. Ryan Pierce, who is played by Regina Hall is the new up and coming Oprah with the self-help books on how to have it all. Sasha Franklin played by Queen Latifah is gave up her dream job at the Times to end up running a failing gossip webpage. Lisa Cooper played by Jada Pinkett Smith is a divorcee who straight lace, all about her children and have to get her groove back since the divorce. Dina played by Tiffany Haddish is the say what you want, don’t give a shit from anyone friend. What happens when these ladies are let loose in NOLO? A whole of crazy fun.
Girls Trip will have you laughing until you’re crying, singing, dancing, cheering and wanting to grab your girl friends for a trip to New Orleans. This movie is a summer must see for all women. Grab your BFF’s for a ladies night out and make sure that night out includes Girls Trip. Side note the music and musical artist appearances are AMAZING!
